Railroad War for the Royal Gorge

Beginning in 1878, and continuing into 1880, two major railroads in Colorado

carried on a physical and legal battle to determine which road would have access to key routes, including Raton Pass and especially the Royal Gorge, which provided access to Leadville, the silver boomtown.
