Grand Junction's first teacher, Nancy "Nannie" Blaine, had her share of problems when she began teaching at the community's first school in 1882. My column in the Aug. 22 edition of The Daily Sentinel explains some of them.
This photo is ostensibly Grand Junction in the early 1880s, although I wasn't able to find a location from where this could have been taken. It seems to look southeast, toward the Colorado River and Orchard Mesa, but it's difficult to keep Grand Mesa and the Uncompahgre Plateau out of any photo framing I've attempted. Although a National Park Service photo, it's possible it was misidentified. What do you think?
