Bob Silbernagel retired as a journalist in 2014, after more than 35 years in the business, the last 19 as Editorial Page Editor of The Daily Sentinel in Grand Junction, Colorado. Among many awards over his career, he was named Colorado Newspaper Person of the Year for 2013 by the Colorado Press Association.

He now concentrates on writing about history, including a semi-monthly history column called First Draft for The Daily Sentinel.

When not writing, he enjoys horseback riding, bicycling, four-wheeling, and other outdoor activities. He and his wife, Judy, live near Palisade, Colorado.

  1. Bob, I realy liked your article about Hay Balers and Horses. It brought back memories about my early life on a ranch north of Steamboat Springs. My Dad bought the ranch in 1951 and we moved up from Denver with a New Holland Baler plus a D4 Cat( to pull and power the baler). This was the first baler in Routt Co.and a shock to most of the old time ranchers. Most were surprised we mowed, raked, baled and stacked nearly 10000 bales in 1952.
